5 Tips For Maintaining Your Truck
April 1, 2020, 11:36 am
When it comes to maintaining your truck a lot of small basic items can often go missed or forgotten. These simple things can potentially save you thousands of dollars in unnecessary breakdowns and avoidable maintenance. These quick and easy tips to maintaining your truck are best performed at the start of each day just like a pre-start in many large businesses or before a big journey or interstate run.
#1 CHECK YOUR TRUCKS RADIATOR LEVEL
Caution! Do not attempt to open your trucks radiator after use. This is best checked first thing in the morning before operation! Checking your trucks radiator fluid level regularly is an important step to take to insure your truck can sufficiently cool. Not having enough or no coolant can lead to very costly engine issues.
#2 SCHEDULE REGULAR SERVICING
While preventative maintenance is great some people think it costs more money! generally speaking, that is wrong. Servicing your truck regularly can help spot issues or potential issues before they become very problematic and costs thousands of dollars in repairs. For example a leaky radiator, this can lead to no coolant and the truck overheating causing damage even worse cracking an engine block, as many of us know the labour alone for stripping down a block can be thousands of dollars if not 10's of thousands due to the complex nature of a truck engine. Schedule regular servicing with a truck expert to help prevent this.
#3 CHECK YOUR ENGINE OIL DAILY
Like any engine in any truck or car, lubrication is key to help cool and displace heat and lubricate key components of the engine. Having low oil can add strain to the engine in many ways or worse having old oil that cannot lubricate sufficiently can lead to parts wearing out, metal shavings making their way around the engine and causing issues no one wants!
#4 CHECK TRANSMISSION AND POWER STEERING FLUIDS REGULARLY
Much like checking your engine oil the transmission and power steering systems rely on a lubricant for many uses. Checking this daily at the same time as your engine oil is a great way to prevent issues and even spot one before it becomes an issue.
#5 CHECKING TAIL LIGHTS, INDICATORS AND HEADLIGHTS
This one goes without saying, making sure all your taillights, headlights and indicators are working can not only save a potential accident but could also save you from getting a nasty fine. We recommend checking your lights at least once a week if not more often. Safe than sorry...
